The city of Hunan set two Guinness World Records for a spectacular drone and fireworks show as 15,947 drones took to the sky in perfect synchronization, forming different images.

The skies of Liuyang, in central China's Hunan province, were illuminated by a record-breaking drone and fireworks show on October 17, an event that drew millions of spectators both in-person and online. During the city's famous fireworks festival, two Guinness World Records were set: one for “the most drones launched simultaneously by a single computer,” and another for “the largest drone formation flight carrying the most fireworks.”

The first launch involved a simultaneous launch of 15,947 drones from a single computer. The second record was achieved with a total of 7,496 drones carrying fireworks. The show itself was a collaboration between Shenzhen's Gaoju Innovation and the local fireworks makers of Liuyang.

During the performance, thousands of drones formed a gigantic “Sky Tree” that shone brilliantly in the night sky before the fireworks at the bottom of the formation were set off, bearing a close resemblance to sprites. While Liuyang hosts fireworks displays every Saturday evening, this record-setting event stood out from the rest.
