Toshiba is at IFA this year showcasing their new entry-level A100 2.5-inch SSD. It consists of 15 nm TLC NAND modules accompanied by SLC cache to improve write speeds for when the drive is mostly empty. The SSD utilizes an in-house Toshiba TC58NC1010 controller and will appear in 120 GB and 240 GB capacities.
Toshiba says the drive will deliver sequential read and write speeds of 550 MB/s and 480 MB/s, respectively, with random read and write speeds rated at 82,000 IOPS and 87,000 IOPS, respectively. Performance-wise, the A100 will be positioned below Toshiba's current Q300 entry-level offering. Pricing information has not been revealed, but Toshiba is expecting to launch the A100 series beginning this October.
Despite the company's mixed performance results in the notebook sector, Toshiba has a large presence in storage devices and related applications. The manufacturer is rumored to be providing 256 GB eMMC modules for the iPhone 6S successors.
