Reviews for the Toshiba Satellite Pro T130-EZ1301

Toshiba - Satellite Pro T130 review

On paper Toshiba's Satellite Pro T130 is a dream. 11 hours of battery life thanks in part to an Intel CULV processor, small format, and low cost is the kind of combination of features that makes mobile computing fans happy. The lack of an optical drive will be a deal-breaker for many. Don't expect higher end specs for the entry level price, and take that battery life estimate with a pinch of salt. Even with these caveats, though, we think the Satellite Pro T130 is a nice little computer.

Toshiba's Satellite Pro T130 is a slimline business laptop designed for mobile professionals who want a stylish, portable system with a decent battery life at a price that doesn't break the bank. The Satellite Pro T130 has a good keyboard and excellent screen that make it a good choice for those who need to work on the move, and want something better than a netbook. However, it may not suit those wanting to run more demanding software than email, web and office tools.

With a stack of 11-inch laptops cornering the headlines, it seems standard 13-inch efforts are being slowly inched out. So does this Toshiba Satellite Pro T130 have what it takes to become our main machine? Or is it too low powered and too big to handle more than the most basic tasks? Read our Toshiba Satellite Pro T130 review now and we’ll tell all. A decent enough laptop, but too big to lack key features like a disc drive.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

SU7300: Slow clocked dual core processor with a low TDP of 10 Watt.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese conglomerate or technology group. The company was established in 1939 and in 1978 Toshiba became the official company name. The company's products and services include power, industrial and social infrastructure systems, elevators and escalators, electronic components, semiconductors, hard drives, printers, batteries, lighting, logistics and information technology. Toshiba was one of the largest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, home appliances and medical equipment.

73.33%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
