Archive.org versionAt $348, this 17-inch notebook performs surprisingly well at an unbeatable value. The Toshiba L355 (S7915) isn’t sexy, and we wish it had a webcam, but at $348 this notebook offers good-enough performance for people with simple computing needs who also want a big screen. Given the fact that Toshiba offers better specs for about $250 less than the competition, we don’t expect supplies of this desktop replacement system to last very long.

Archive.org versionAvailable exclusively at Wal-Mart, Toshiba’s Satellite L355-S7915 is a bargain hunter’s dream machine. This 17-inch notebook won’t dazzle you with performance, and it lacks more than a few of the features found on most mainstream laptops. The big story here is the price: For an incredibly low $348, you get a big-screen notebook that will handle the basics and give you more than two hours of unplugged computing time. A 17-inch desktop-replacement laptop for the cost of a low-end netbook, this is an exceptional value—if you can live with bare-minimum performance and a lean feature set.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: The graphics core of the Intel GL40 and GS40 chipset features a slower clocked GMA 4500MHD (400 versus 533 MHz). Because of the slower core speed, full Blu-Ray Logo support is not given and the gaming performance is a bit worse.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Celeron M: It is a Pentium M with halved level 2 Cache and limited on FSB 400. The characteristic of this processor is the speed, which is hardly slower than an equivalent Pentium M. However it can change the speed not dynamically like the Pentium M and therefore needs without load more current.
It is also available as Low Voltage Version with very small current consumption.
900: Single core processor based on the Penryn core but many advanced features are deactivated. Due to the missing Speedstep, the CPU may lead to a lower battery runtime.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
