TinyCircuits has introduced the TinyTV 2 and TinyTV Mini, successors to the three-year-old TinyTV. Available for US$49 via Kickstarter, the pair should start shipping in March 2023 in a choice of two colours each.

TinyCircuits has returned with a new TinyTV, a miniature retro TV that the company introduced in 2019. A specialist in small open-source hardware, TinyCircuits has taken the idea of a Tiny TV to extreme lengths with one new model, dubbed the TinyTV Mini. As its name suggests, it is an even smaller version of the TinyTV 2, which only has a 1-inch display itself.

By contrast, the TinyTV Mini utilises a minute 0.64-inch OLED panel that operates at a mere 64 x 64 pixels. The TinyTV Mini has an equally small battery too, which TinyCircuits rates at 50 mAh (3.7 V). Unsurprisingly, the device has woeful battery life, with official estimates not outlasting an hour. In comparison, the 150 mAh and 3.7 V battery in the TinyTV 2 should be good for up to two hours of battery life, despite powering a larger 1-inch IPS display that outputs at 216 x 135 pixels.

Powered by the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, the TinyTV 2 also has an 8 GB microSD, a USB Type-C port that handles data transfer and charging and an IR receiver for an optional remote controller. Additionally, TinyCircuits has included physical channel, power and volume buttons, which it can only fit on the top of the TinyTV Mini. Currently, the TinyTV 2 and TinyTV Mini are available to back on Kickstarter for US$49, with TinyCircuits aiming to ship units to backers in March 2023.
