Deal | "Thrilling to the last drop": Vampire RPG drops from $40 to $4 on Steam for the first time

London, 1918 – the city is reeling from the Spanish flu. In Vampyr, you step into the role of Dr. Jonathan Reid, determined to treat the sick and uncover the source of the deadly outbreak. His mission is complicated by a dark twist: he has recently been turned into a vampire. Reid is driven to save lives, yet he must feed on the very people he is sworn to protect.
In terms of gameplay, Vampyr is a story-driven action RPG with a strong focus on exploration, dialogue, and difficult choices. As a newly turned vampire, the doctor faces a constant inner struggle – heal or feed? This dilemma is closely tied to the citizen system, which reacts directly to your actions. Giving in to your thirst for blood can weaken entire districts, yet it also allows you to grow stronger more quickly. Combat plays a key role as well. You fight in close quarters, use firearms, and unleash dark blood powers against your enemies.
Vampyr holds a 78% positive user rating on Steam and a Metacritic score of 70 from critics and 6.8 from users. Even so, it may still be worth a look for RPG fans drawn to its grim setting. In its review, German gaming magazine GameStar praised the game’s dense atmosphere, which vividly captures London in 1918. The story of Dr. Jonathan Reid stands out for its meaningful moral choices, well-developed characters, and sustained tension. Criticism primarily targets technical shortcomings such as flat textures, performance issues, and occasionally stiff facial animations. GameStar summed up its verdict as follows:
"A small masterpiece that is not quite cutting-edge from a technical standpoint: Vampyr is multi-layered, atmospheric and thrilling to the last drop."
