Three familiar G-Shocks get a stealthy new look
Casio has unveiled monochrome editions of its G-Shock DW-5600, DW-5900 and DW-6900 watches, pairing matte gray cases with black straps while retaining their established designs and features. The lineup launches first in Japan, with global availability expected in the coming weeks.

After surfacing at a Vietnamese retailer last week, Casio's latest monochrome G-Shocks are now officially available. The new DW-5600MTM-8, DW-5900MTM-8, and DW-6900MTM-8 give the entry-level classics a monochrome makeover, while retaining their familiar designs and tried-and-tested internals. The new monochrome lineup is launching first in Japan and is expected to make its way to global markets in the coming weeks.

First up we have the DW-5600MTM-8, and it’s the most straightforward of the bunch, bringing the monochrome treatment to Casio's iconic square G-Shock. It features a matte gray resin case paired with a black resin strap, while the familiar rectangular display gets a black surround with silver accents. The watch retains the classic 5600-series layout, with a large time display, day and date indicators, and the usual collection of small status icons. The watch measures 48.9 x 42.8 x 13.4mm, weighs 58g, and boasts a five-year battery life.

Next up, the DW-5900MTM-8 takes the same black-and-gray treatment in a different direction. It pairs a round resin case with the DW-5900's distinctive Triple Graph display. First introduced in 1992, this layout remains one of the more recognizable designs in the G-Shock lineup, with three circular subdials sitting above a larger digital readout. The new version keeps that familiar arrangement but gives the dial a dark, textured appearance, with gray accents around the subdials and a matching matte gray case.

The DW-5900MTM-8 is slightly larger than its square sibling, measuring 51.4 x 46.8 x 15.5mm. It also has a more feature-packed module inside, which offers world time covering 48 cities across 29 time zones, five daily alarms, a stopwatch, and a 24-hour countdown timer. Battery life is rated at an impressive 10 years, twice that of the other two models.

Finally, there's the DW-6900MTM-8. At 53.2 x 50 x 18.7mm and 73g, it's the largest and heaviest model in the trio. It takes the familiar oversized case and three-eye dial layout of the 6900 series and dresses them in the same monochrome palette. The matte gray resin case surrounds a black dial, with three circular subdisplays arranged above the main digital display.

In addition to the metal buckle, the DW-6900MTM-8 also gets a honed finish on its prominent front button. The rest of the package is pretty familiar, with the watch offering all the standard timekeeping essentials like a stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-alarm, and fully automatic calendar. It also gets 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, and a white Super Illuminator LED backlight. Battery life is rated at around five years.

Pricing and availability

The new G-Shock DW-5600MTM-8 and DW-5900MTM-8 are set to go on sale in Japan later this month for ¥15,950 (~$101). The DW-6900MTM-8 is priced slightly higher at ¥17,050 (~$108). All three should hit global markets in the coming weeks.
