Casio unveils new affordable retro LF-40W digital watches in 3 colorways

Casio has added three references to its Classic line in Japan. All three use the LCD in a way the company has not tried before. The LF-40W-1A, LF-40W-8A and LF-40W-2A each have a price of 4,400 yen including tax, which works out to roughly $25 once Japan’s 10% consumption tax comes off. Release scheduled for November 2026.
The layout essentially looks like a calculator watch with the keypad removed. Casio puts the time along the top of the display and fills the space below it with three rows of bar-shaped windows. The top row follows the active mode and shows whether the alarm, hourly signal, button tone and daylight saving are switched on. The middle and bottom rows follow the running seconds, counting elapsed time upward in 10-second and one-second steps. Casio’s own copy for the watch uses the word "gajetto-kan", a gadget-like feel.
@geesgshock, who covered the launch as well, described those bars as a repeating countdown. Casio’s product page says the reverse, that the rows count up rather than down. A conventional 24-hour countdown timer is on board as a separate function, alongside a 1/100-second stopwatch, world time for four selectable cities, five daily alarms and an LED backlight.
The case is resin, 37.8 by 33.7 by 8.6 mm and 23 g, with a resin crystal. It is rated for daily-life water resistance only. The strap uses biomass plastic. A CR1616 cell should last around three years.
The price has not moved in three and a half years. The LF-20W series arrived in May 2023 at 4,400 yen and the LF-30W followed in May 2025 at the same figure. Casio has not announced pricing or release dates for the LF-40W outside Japan.
