The third Epic Games Store mystery free game is now live, and it turned out to be a somewhat disappointing freebie. For this round, the storefront is giving away Eternights, which isn't a bad title at all, at least for those who don't own it.
However, Eternights was given away before, by Amazon Prime Gaming in September 2024, and it was an Epic Games Store code. So, those who have claimed it before, this freebie is a dud.
As for those who couldn't claim it as a free game before, Eternights was released in 2023, and it's categorized as a dating simulation title with a mix of action and RPG elements. Published by Studio Sai, it makes players step into the shoes of an 18-year-old male protagonist.
The story unfolds as the protagonist loses his arm but eventually gains a magical arm that can transform into a sword. As far as the gameplay mechanics go, players need to manage the day-to-day life of the protagonist, balancing combat, dungeon exploration, and dating.
Speaking of which, the combat system features hack-and-slash action that requires precise dodges. This current free game on the Epic Games Store is praised for how smooth the combat can feel once the mechanics are mastered. The emotional depth that the story can create is another highlight of Eternights.
However, the environments throughout the game can feel a little repetitive. There are some mini games and side content that feel unpolished. Other than that, it's a solid anime-styled JRPG with proper controller support (8BitDo Ultimate 2C wireless curr. $22.49 on Amazon), and it features a 90% positive rating on Steam as well.
Epic Games Store will keep Eternights in the PC free game section for a short time, though. This mystery giveaway will expire on December 20, 2025, at UTC 16:00. Check out the video below to learn more about the freebie.
