The laptop market of 2018 is still clearly dominated by Intel – that is evident by the number of systems outfitted with Intel processors. Whats different this year: AMD finally has a CPU platform that actually stands a chance against Intel. Still, the number and selection of laptops with AMD Ryzen processors is still pretty limited.
One of the largest driving forces of PC sales these days are businesses. Not long ago, AMD announced that they are entering this market, cooperating with the biggest manufacturers of business PC, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Lenovo announced four Ryzen-equipped models of its well-known ThinkPad-line of laptops and the first two of these are finally available.
The ThinkPad E485 and ThinkPad E585 are budget models, made for small and medium size companies. They lack some of the business & luxury features of the more expensive ThinkPad laptops to keep the price down: As of now, the 14-inch model ThinkPad E485 is available in the US for a starting price of 561 US-Dollars, the larger 15-inch model ThinkPad E585 also starts at 561 Dollars. Both models are not just available in the US now, they are also on sale in countries like Australia, the UK or Canada.
Notebookcheck already reviewed the ThinkPad E480 and ThinkPad E580, the Intel-equipped counterparts of the Ryzen ThinkPads E485 and E585. Of course, we plan to review these new AMD ThinkPads soon.
