There are at least two Blackberry phones in the works for 2018
The Blackberry brand had a slightly underwhelming 2017. Only two devices carrying the company's logo were released last year—the Blackberry KEYone and the Blackberry Motion. Good news for fans of the brand, however, is that 2018 will see the release of two Blackberry devices, at the very least.
The information comes from an announcement at the ongoing CES by Blackberry Mobile global general manager Alain Lejeune. “It has been less than one year since we formally introduced the world to our all-new BlackBerry smartphones and we’ve seen very strong renewed interest thanks to devices like BlackBerry KEYone and BlackBerry Motion,” he was reported as saying. “With new BlackBerry smartphones from TCL Communication now available in over 50 countries around the world, we have a solid foundation to continue building upon our portfolio in the new year. This means customers can expect to see at least two new BlackBerry smartphones from us later this year.”
Last year's Blackberry KEYone and Motion had largely positive receptions, with the KEYone, in particular, appealing to a niche crowd due to its physical keyboard. Both devices are also billed to receive Android Oreo this year. That said, we're not certain of how successful they were commercially.
One of the two slated devices for 2018 will be a direct successor to the KEYone, and recent information points towards it keeping the physical keyboard, and making an upgrade to the more powerful Snapdragon 660.
