Samsung has joined the likes of Microsoft and Google by creating its own version of the digital whiteboard. Named Flip, the whiteboard enables seamless collaboration and is powered by the Tizen 3.0 OS.

Samsung introduced its take on the digital whiteboard by showcasing the Samsung Flip digital flip chart display at CES today. The Flip WM55H promotes collaborative team work by enabling team members to easily ink, share, annotate, and even search for information on the whiteboard — all while maintaining the feel of traditional writing.

Up to 4 participants can simultaneously engage with the board, which presents the information on an easy to read UHD display. The UHD display can be oriented in any direction and is height-adjustable or wall mountable. The board features common wired and wireless connectivity options enabling easy sharing of information to and from the display. Just like a conventional whiteboard, a palm swipe is sufficient to erase the contents on screen. Users can store up to 20 pages of content, which is indexed and searchable. The Flip display runs on the open source Tizen OS, which hasn't seen much traction outside of Samsung's smart devices portfolio. The OS allows for securely protecting the contents of the whiteboard and sharing it with designated team members.

The Samsung Flip would be jostling for attention alongside the popular but expensive Microsoft Surface Hub. The Surface Hub comes in 85-inch (4K@120 Hz) and 55-inch (FHD@120 Hz) and brings with the versatility of Windows 10 and Microsoft's extensive suite of productivity tools. Microsoft also launched the Whiteboard Preview app recently that allows anyone with a Windows 10 PC to ink, collaborate, and share information in real time.

Samsung has not revealed the full specifications of the device but it might not fully match up to the Microsoft Surface Hub or the Google Jamboard in terms of raw power. But that could be a good thing as it will serve to help workplaces adopt modern collaboration tools at a lower entry price. The Samsung Flip will be on display in booth #15006 in the Las Vegas Convention Center between Jan 9-12. The company will start rolling out the product to professional users in the United States and Europe later this month and can also be purchased via traditional online and offline channels.
