Meizu CEO Jack Wong has given pricing details of the company’s upcoming Meizu 16 devices. According to the executive, the devices will come with a CNY 4,000 price tag that translates into about US$615.
Meizu is set to announce the launch of its Meizu 16 devices sometime in August. The company released its Meizu 15 phones a short while ago in April, so it’s a bit baffling as to why successors to those devices are to be released just four months after. It’s possible that this line of devices replaces the company’s tradition Pro series, perhaps because the latter has become associated with running on MediaTek chipsets.
While Meizu devices are unlikely to appeal to most, the revealed pricing is one that has us interested. It’s expected that two devices will be released, one of which will feature a Snapdragon 845, and the other the new Snapdragon 710. At US$615, it’s a bit hard to look away from it. The only major flagships cheaper than that are the Mi 8 and OnePlus 6.
What makes it even more interesting is the fact that the Meizu 16 devices have been confirmed to not feature a notch. Neither will they ditch the headphone jack. At this point, you’d have to find something with a Samsung logo to get both features, so it’s nice to see a smaller OEM offer a similar package.
The Meizu 16 is expected to feature a pressure-sensitive mBack button on its screen, one that takes you back with a tap, but takes you to your home screen with a hard press. The device will also utilize a vapor chamber cooling system to prevent overheating and thermal throttling.
