The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER powers past the GTX 1660 in Final Fantasy XV benchmark
It seems that memory speed throttles the GeForce GTX 1660, if an FFXV benchmark containing the rumored GTX 1660 SUPER is to be believed. Spotted on the FFXV benchmark website by @TUM_APISAK, this is the first time we have seen the capabilities of the apparently upcoming GPU appear online.
Essentially, the GTX 1660 SUPER is the GTX 1660 with GDDR6 VRAM. All other specifications remain the same, except the 14 Gbps on which GDDR6 runs gives the GTX 1660 SUPER a higher memory bandwidth. Accordingly, the former outscores the GTX 1660 by 15% in the benchmark at 2,560 x 1,440 on the high preset, although we doubt that this performance difference will remain identical across all games, resolutions and graphics presets.
The GTX 1660 SUPER also scores approximately 2% less than the GTX 1660 Ti, despite having fewer CUDA cores. We suspect that the former can bridge the CUDA core-related performance gap that the GTX 1660 is unable to do thanks to its faster GDDR6 VRAM. The result puts the GTX 1660 SUPER within touching distance of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 and GeForce GTX 1070 too.
We expect NVIDIA to unveil the GTX 1660 SUPER next week on October 29. Videocardz claims that the GPU will carry a US$229 MSRP.
