Tesla snubs Intel chips again as it brings High Fidelity Park Assist only to USS cars with Ryzen CPU

Tesla users with cars that are barely three years old are feeling the weight of their slower Intel Atom infotainment computer processors yet again.

After being snubbed for the new Cybertruck-style interactive cockpit UI, they will now lack another feature that requires fairly complex 3D visualization in real time.

Back in 2022, Tesla started pulling the ultrasonic parking sensors from its new vehicle batches to save $114 in manufacturing costs. It said that their functionality will be replaced with Tesla Vision camera-only software, but frustrated new owners were left hanging for months on end with neither parking sensors nor the camera-only solution.

Tesla then returned features like parking assistance and Autopark to cars without ultrasonic parking sensors, and even provided them with cool 3D visualizations it called High Fidelity Park Assist. It even hinted that USS cars will get those goods, too.

Tesla is now rolling out its latest 2024.3.25 software update with the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v12.3.6 version, but that's not all there is to it. Just as promised, the update also brings High Fidelity Park Assist and Autopark to its older USS cars.

Since not all chips in Tesla cars are created equal, though, Teslas with an AMD Ryzen chip will get all the cool Autopark and 3D High Fidelity Park Assist visualizations.

Those with an Intel Atom processor are not only getting gimped Autopark visuals, but they aren't getting the High Fidelity Park Assist feature.

They can still rely on the good ol' ultrasonic parking sensor for beeping and warning duties, though, which is often better at detecting smaller objects, or measuring distance in tighter spaces.
