New hands with tactile feeling on all fingers and foot torque sensing are just some of Tesla's Optimus Gen 2 improvements. The humanoid robot is also much faster and lighter.

About 9 months after introducing its first Optimus humanoid robot brainchild, Tesla is now giving birth to its Optimus Gen 2 sibling.

The new Tesla robot moves 30% faster than before all the while it is much lighter without sacrificing endurance or performance.

Tesla Optimus Gen 2 features

On the contrary, the Optimus Gen 2 now comes with tactile sensing on all fingers of its new hands that now offer 11 degrees of freedom (DoF) for better manipulation of sensitive objects. Tesla gives an example with handling eggs in the promo video below, and the increased DoF count doesn't end with the faster hands.

The Optimus Gen 2 also offers 2-DoF neck now as well as feet force/torque sensing and articulated toe sections styled after the human foot. The Optimus Gen 2 update brings Tesla-designed actuators and sensors all around with integrated circuits and harnessing for a nice 10kg weight reduction.

The extra degrees of freedom that the new Tesla actuators and sensing technology have allowed for better balance and control of the whole humanoid body of the Optimus Gen 2. Tesla is celebrating these posture control improvements with a dancing robots duo, while the Optimus Gen 2 speed bump is demonstrated with a catwalk before a Cybertruck line-up.
