Tesla Optimus appears to have evolved considerably, as Elon Musk shows in a recent video on X (formerly Twitter). However, an eagle-eyed viewer noticed that the demonstration of the humanoid robot's latest skills appeared to be cheated.

Tesla Optimus is said to have advanced its capabilities, as Elon Musk demonstrates in a recently uploaded video. Just a few weeks ago, images circulated of the Tesla robot independently sorting red and blue building blocks, which it is said to be able to do thanks in part to training with fully neural networks. The humanoid robot has also been shown doing yoga exercises to demonstrate its ability to maintain its balance.

Just two years ago, the robot performed rather poorly at Tesla AI Day 2022, doing little more than walking and waving. Since then, however, it has made great strides. According to the company's plans, the current version, called Optimus Gen 2, will one day be able to be used as a domestic helper, assisting with everyday tasks. But until then, the robot should work in the company's production halls, taking on unpleasant, boring or dangerous tasks.

In the latest video on X (formerly Twitter), Optimus Gen 2 can be seen taking a T-shirt from a basket, carefully placing it on a table and then folding the garment with relatively delicate movements and setting it aside. What the video does not show, however, is that a hidden employee on the right of the image is remotely controlling the robot with some sort of control glove, and the robot appears to be mimicking his movements.

If you look closely, the control glove can be seen in the bottom right-hand corner of the video at around second 12. If someone had not pointed out this apparent deception in the comments, Elon Musk might not have mentioned that the robot was not performing the task independently.

It was only about 20 minutes after the video was uploaded, or shortly after @TeslaLisa's comment pointing out the hidden control glove, that Elon Musk changed the video description to say that the robot was not yet able to perform the movements autonomously. This is at least the second incident of misrepresentation by the company, following recent inconsistencies in the performance data of the Tesla Cybertruck in a race against a Porsche 911.
