Tesla giving away a free Cybertruck in its Loot Box referral program
Tesla wouldn't be Tesla if it didn't announce a chance to win one of its hotly anticipated new vehicles in a prized raffle. Participants in Tesla's referral program have spotted a chance to win a free Cybertruck from Tesla in their loot boxes.
The raffle conditions say that those who take part will have a chance for delivery of one of the first Cybertruck VIN numbers coming from the Gigafactory in Texas where Tesla's first electric pickup will be assembled. "One winner will be selected free of charge," says Tesla, and continues with "no reservation needed... multiple entries allowed."
Needless to say, there is still a lot of time before the Cybertruck is released, and Tesla doesn't exactly have a good track record with raffles for free EVs. It announced one for free Roadsters, for instance, that is yet to materialize, and ditto for the gratis Model Y. Another referral program raffle was supposed to send winners' pictures into space way back in 2018, but Tesla only started contacting them for the photos last year, too.
In any case, the Cybertruck is perhaps the most popular vehicle launch at the moment, with 1.8 million in pending preorder reservations, so the notion of getting the pickup for free may turn out to be a huge incentive.
At the last quarterly earnings call, Elon Musk said that the Cybertruck will "probably" be released towards the tail end of Q3, if all goes well, so participants have the whole summer to crank out those referrals and cross fingers that this raffle doesn't go the way of the dodo bird like Tesla's prior ones.
