Tesla is extending the current free Supercharging offer from a three-month ordeal to indefinite duration for some of its vehicles.

Despite all the teething problems with early Tesla Model S batteries' valve positioning that caused them to fail early and often, the cars are still sought after on the second-hand market, especially those with redesigned batteries already replaced under warranty.

The reason is simple, free lifetime Supercharging and premium connectivity that Model S units used to come with. Now that they have dropped in price significantly, those with free Supercharging still keep their value well, to the tune of a 2014 Model S having a $28,995 asking price.

This is why those who are in the market for Tesla's longest range vehicle, the Model S AWD, or fastest one, the Model S Plaid, will be happy to hear that Tesla is reinstating the free lifetime Supercharging offer for its powerful sedan.

Those who buy or lease a new Model S after December 13 will now get free Supercharging for life. The deal is stackable with all other promos that Tesla is currently running, and there are plenty of those in the last quarter of the year.

The owner would still be responsible for congestion or idle fees at Superchargers, of course, but they will never have to pay for driving their Model S for years on end. Unfortunately, unlike the early editions of this free lifetime Supercharging promo, it will be tied to the buyer's Tesla Account, and they won't be able to transfer it to another Tesla car or a new owner.

Tesla often starts strong with restrictions on the transfer of services or incentives like FSD and free Supercharging, then lifts them after a certain period of ownership when it needs to plump its sales numbers or force an upgrade.

It is not clear how long will Tesla's free lifetime Supercharging offer for the Model S last, but given that the Model X and even the Cybertruck now start from the same $79,990 price as the Model S, it had to give some permanent incentive to those who pick its fastest vehicle with the longest range on a charge.
