Tesla has finally released an Apple Watch app that allows for some basic functions of controlling its cars, a week ahead of the actual 2024 Holiday Update rollout to the vehicles.
Those who have updated the Tesla app and carry an Apple Watch on their wrist will be able to check out the interface that will allow locking or unlocking their Tesla, start the A/C, open the frunk, or see the remaining battery percentage and miles on a charge straight from the app's home screen.
Swiping up reveals a secondary screen which allows for opening and closing of the trunk or NACS charging port, as well as flashing the Tesla's lights and honking its horn. In addition, the second Tesla app screen on the Apple Watch carries a vehicle switch selector, as well as the car's VIN number and model version.
If any desired feature is missing, the Apple Watch owner can set it via the so-called complications that Apple describes as ways to display "timely, relevant information on the watch face, where people can view it each time they raise their wrist."
The list of available Tesla app complications for the Apple Watch face includes the car battery's state of charge, as well as some home energy data such as usage, Powerwall status, or solar generation and offset.
For the Tesla app to appear on the Apple Watch, it needs to be on watchOS 11, but even then one can only display the state of charge or preview the command interface.
For the Apple Watch Tesla app to function, the software Holiday Update has to hit their vehicle next week, when it will become clear if one can climb in and drive off with just the Watch.
