While Russia's first humanoid robot that fell during its announcement sparked countless inebriation jokes, Tesla's Optimus has now also shown its human side by keeling over while serving drinks at an event.
Human, as the Optimus robot was likely controlled by an operator from a distance, something Tesla has been known to do ever since robots mixed cocktails for the attendants at the Cybercab unveiling event last year.
The Optimus humanoid butler was standing behind a tray with water bottles at Tesla's "Future of Autonomy Visualized" showcase exhibition in the Miami Design District that took place over the weekend. All of a sudden, the robot made a gesture as if it were taking off a non-existent VR headset, tipping a few bottles over, then lost balance and fell on its back in an admittedly hilarious flop.
Some tried to explain the fall as a glitch, yet the move looked suspiciously as if an absent-minded teleoperator got off their place and removed the headset with an uncharacteristic gesture that shifted the bipedal robot's weight load too quick and tipped it over.
The Russian robot's fall happened when its handlers decided to showcase its balancing abilities and pushed it gently forward, while the Optimus mishap most likely happened because of the human who was operating it.
Modern humanoid robots are otherwise pretty agile and have no issues keeping their balance while walking on uneven terrain or even while demonstrating their martial art skills. Tesla is now working on an Optimus 3.0 version that it says will have more degrees of freedom in its movements and will be powered by its more advanced AI5 and AI6 chips.
