TP-Link Neffos X1
Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam
TP-Link has a positive reputation as that best global provider for networking products for a long time. TP-Link has set a new goal in order to be recognized other than that reputation by also becoming a manufacturer in the smartphone business. Recently, TP-Link has launched the Neffos X1 and Neffos X1 Max. The TP-Link Neffos X1 is currently available in the colors of Cloudy Gray and Sunrise Gold. It is powered by a Helio P10 octa-core processor. Graphics are rendered by the famous ARM Mali-T860MP2 at 550 MHz. The Neffos X1 comes in two variations: 2 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM and 3 GB + 32 GB ROM. This Neffos can pair nicely with a microSD card that can add up to 128 GB of extra storage space. This particular phone from TP-Link supports dual nano SIM cards. Both slots support 2G, 3G and 4G. The Neffos X1 supports dual-SIM dual-Standby. Hence, if the user takes a call on one SIM the other SIM does not become active. With the additional microSD card, one SIM slot is occupied. The Neffos X1 measures at 142 x 71 x 7.95 mm and weighs 135 grams. Its 5-inch display features a resolution of 1,280 x 720 HD at 293.7 PPI. The viewing angles are wide and the display is protected against scratch with 2.5D glass. The Neffos X1 introduces a new dimension to the design of smartphone, with the degree of the curvature which was modified many times to tackle the balance between “gentle” and “dynamic”, to make the handling of the back feel more natural and fit perfectly into the palm of the user compared to other smartphones. The CNC technique makes the phone's extremely narrow edges with 0.6 mm ultra slim chamfer that manage to make the phone even more stylish. The entire physical button on the phone is carefully curved so that the user can handle it easily. The mute button enables the user to mute all the sounds from the phone with ease in any circumstance. The phone features a 5 MP front camera with beautifying effects and a 13 MP rear camera and is ready for real-time night shooting. It comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB 2.0 port. The phone has a variety of sensors, such as an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, a compass, an ambient sensor, and a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone. The finger print reader allows the user to unlock the phone within 0.2 seconds. The-Link is empowered by 2250 mAh battery that can support the user for a day. Fans of TP-Link products have to try this smartphone to see that TP-Link is capable of more than just networking products. They can also produce powerful and stylish smartphones such as the TP-Link Neffos X1.Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam
The TP-Link Neffos X1 is a smartphone released by the well-known maker of networking equipment which is TP-Link. However, it's been working on rebranding to do so. It is pivoting more toward the smart home market and has also released a couple of smartphones earlier this year under the Neffos name. The smartphone is made from a unibody metal exterior, featuring a dual curved back that tapers towards the sides. The X1 has a stunningly slim edge of 2.95mm. At their thickest, the X1 is 7.95mm. The TP-Link Neffos X1 smartphone is available in two different color variations, Cloudy Gray and Sunrise Gold. The Neffos X1 smartphone has a 5 inch screen, with HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel per inch density of 293.7 PPI. The display uses IPS, which means that its viewing angles are wide and the color reproduction should be very good. The display is covered with 2.5D glass, which protects it from scratches and dust. 2.5D means that the glass has no hard edges, but fades into the case gradually. The TP-Link Neffos X1 is powered by an Helio P10 octa-core processor from MediaTek. This processor has 4 cores running at 1.8GHz and 4 cores running at 1GHz. The graphics are handled by a Mali-T860MP2 video chip running at 550MHz. TP-Link manufactures the Neffos X1 smartphone in two variations depending on the amount of RAM memory and storage space. A user can get it with either 2GB of RAM memory and 16GB of storage space or with 3GB of RAM memory and 32GB of internal storage space. Regardless of the version user have, user, can extend the internal storage space with a microSD card of up to 128GB. This is quite useful as even the 32GB isn’t particularly large these days. The rear camera on the TP-Link Neffos X1 is powered by a Sony IMX 258 sensor with a maximum resolution of 13 Megapixels, f2.0 aperture and 0.2s phase-detection autofocus. On the front, a user gets a selfie camera with 5 megapixels and beautifying effects. As for battery life, TP-Link equipped their Neffos X1 smartphone with a 2250mAh battery that should help it get through a whole day’s use. The TP-Link Neffos X1 smartphone is a Dual SIM device and supports 2G/3G WCDMA/4G LTE on both SIM cards, in Dual SIM Dual Standby. As for the connectivity options, the TP-Link Neffos X1 comes with a micro USB 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a Bluetooth 4.1 chip and a wireless network card that’s capable of connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks that use the 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless standards.Specifications

TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite
TP-Link is best known for its wireless routers and networking devices. Not many people know that the company has decided to produce smartphones, too. The TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite is a suitable choice for essential smartphone needs, such as making phone calls, browsing the internet, or social media, as well as for people who do not want to spend a lot of money on a smartphone. For starters, the Neffos X1 Lite has an aluminum build, which is great, it feels compact due to its 5-inch display, and the sides are slightly tapered to offer a good grip. TP-Link has equipped the X1 Lite with a fast and reliable rear fingerprint scanner that beats many entry-level Android devices. The TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite is available in two color variations, namely Cloud Grey and Sunrise Gold. The smartphone has a 5-inch screen with a 720p HD resolution (1280 by 720 pixels, pixel density of 293.7 PPI). The display uses IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, so the viewing angles are wide and the colors should be close to natural, although not as vivid as on AMOLED displays. The screen is protected by 2.5D scratch-resistant curved glass.
On the inside, the TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite is powered by an eight-core Cortex-A53 processor running at 1.5 GHz on a MediaTek MT6750 chipset. The video part is handled by a Mali-T860MP2 graphics chip running at 520 MHz. As for memory, the smartphone has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash storage. Users can expand the storage by adding a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 128 GB. The rear camera found on the TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite has 13 megapixels, an f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and dual-LED flash for low light conditions. On the front, there is a selfie camera with 5 megapixels and a 84° wide-angle lens. It would do just fine for beautifying facial features a little. TP-Link happened to issue a software update during the review period to include a Pro mode, which gives users a good amount of control over photos. Though it does not allow live previews of a photo, users do get a great ISO range (up to ISO 3000) and slow shutter speeds of up to 1/4 seconds. The Neffos X1 Lite ships with Android 7.0 and TP-Link’s proprietary launcher, which is simply called NFUI. Although the user experience is not as sophisticated as with Xiaomi’s MIUI or Huawei’s EMUI, TP-Link does not preinstall any bloatware and keeps most of the UI elements close to stock Android. The TP-Link Neffos X1 Lite gets its autonomy from a built-in non-removable battery with a capacity of 2550 mAh.

The Neffos X1 Lite is the phone that get the essentials done, apart from the smaller screen size and storage, there isn’t anything that I’m truly unsatisfied with, it has reliable software and performance, a camera that I could really use for Facebook and Instagram uploads, all of this for the price of RM499 and a 2-year warranty makes it really attractive in the entry-level category and one phone that you won’t hate.

TP-Link Neffos N1
The Neffos N1 is the first Neffos dual-camera smartphone that packs a MediaTek chipset at an affordable price tag. Built into the Neffos N1 is a stunning 12 MP + 12 MP dual camera, achieving a professional-quality bokeh effect. By better highlighting the subject and blurring the background, a user can create a studio-quality portrait in seconds. The Neffos N1 captures more light by using a dual Sony IMX386 12MP camera. It is an advanced RGB sensor captures a broad spectrum of colors, while a monochrome sensor records minute details. The camera capturing function combines multi-frame noise reduction algorithms, which results in incredibly sharp and vivid photos even at night. Internally, the Helio P25 chipset is coupled with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage. The octa-core CPU goes up to 2.5 GHz, while the GPU is Mali-T880. The 16 nm process chip supports LTE for 4G connection while the Wi-Fi is supported by TP-Link’s in-house dual-band smart antenna technology. The Neffos N1 comes with a 5.5” IPS LCD of Full HD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. 85 % color saturation and 1,800:1 contrast rendered through 2.5D curved glass guarantee a more vivid viewing experience. The Eye Protection Mode can be turned on automatically based on user preference. Reducing blue light rays by up to 89 %, it enables comfortable reading in low-light and dark environments, saving user eyesight whenever they look at the screen. Behind the display is the rear fingerprint sensor, which employs sophisticated self-learning algorithms to unlock the phone in just 0.2 seconds. It is the common location for a fingerprint scanner. Thanks to a self-learning algorithm, the more user unlock the smartphone, the more accurate and faster it gets. As for design, the Neffos N1 involved more than 100 strict processes including CNC cutting and carving, nano-molding, 360° polishing, 3D abrasive blasting, and color anodizing for an intuitively smooth touch, designed to be precise within 0.03 mm. On the left side is where a user will find the volume button. Instead of together with the power button over on the right. There is also a mute switch, similar to what is found on the OnePlus 5/5T. It is perfect for quickly silencing the phone. For operating software, users get the NFUI 7.0 user interface based on Android Nougat. But after detailed inspection, this looks like a redesigned Emotion UI, which Huawei uses in its phones. The battery cell has 3,260 mAh capacity and Fast Charging is supported. According to the manufacturer, it takes only 30 minutes to achieve a 50 % charge. The battery has been specially designed to ensure stable performance and safety. Comes with a hardware switch. For the last two years, TP-Link has been one of the players in the market for affordable smartphones and was able to mainly attract some price-conscious customers with its devices. The Chinese manufacturer is also trying the same strategy with the new Neffos N1, which aims to draw some attention with a 12+12 MP dual-camera system at an affordable price. We clarify in our review how well this approach works and what customers can additionally expect from the TP-Link smartphone.

For what it is worth, the Neffos N1 is great for folks that need performance on all fronts matched with long battery life. Those who want to try a dual-lens setup but can’t shell out big can consider this device too. If anything, it will fit with those who are always on-the-go and rely on their smartphone to help pass the time. Indeed, the Neffos N1 is a decent attempt at proper a new flagship. At just a little over RM1,000, it is certainly affordable to most Malaysians. Big plus point for TP-Link that it made this upper mid-range entry feel like a premium product. Now that is a move that should be lauded just for as the effort is A+!

TP-Link Neffos X20
TP-Link is a company largely known in China and the Southeast Asia Pacific region to be a provider of technological devices that are generally associated with connectivity. To see TP-Link introducing a smartphone of their own is somewhat of a shocking surprise to the world. Though arguably speaking, their entrance into the smartphone industry is rather belated, it is nevertheless never too late since there will never be as good a time as the present. TP-Link bold introduces the TP-Link Neffos X20 to the world as the representative of their company in the smartphone industry. The TP-Link Neffos X20 appears to be your average everyday mundane-looking smartphone device but there is much to be explored when it comes to its design, features, and specifications. For instance, the TP-Link Neffos X20 comes in multiple color options ranging from a bold red, cool-toned blue, classic black, and the much attractive Aurora Purple. The design of the TP-Link Neffos X20 focuses on the projection of colors through a gradient glassy back and this execution works particularly well with the Aurora Purple color scheme whereby a seamless blend of purple and blue hues create an aesthetical illusion of auroral projection. This is considered to be a rather applaudable marketing move since TP-Link is willing to make the necessary investment in creating several variations for customers to choose from in accordance to their own color preference. In addition, the TP-Link Neffos X20 has a rather expansive view of 6.26-inch HP Dewdrop Display with IPS technology as its screen of choice. The Dewdrop Display design enables the TP-Link Neffos X20 to achieve a maximized screen-to-body ratio of 87.2 percent and an aspect ratio of 19:9, which creates an undoubtedly immersive experience for users to draw themselves into. This also paves the way towards the AI Face Unlock feature that the TP-Link Neffos X20 has cleverly included into its device. There seems to be an upscaling trend in the utilization of AI Face Recognition to unlock smartphones. TP-Link paid homage to this by integrating the very selfsame technology for their TP-Link Neffos X20 smartphone model. The AI Face Unlock within the TP-Link Neffos X20 enables the device to verify the user’s identity through the dynamic detection of 106 facial key points in order to ensure maximum security. Potential users of the TP-Link Neffos X20 can now experience the very same function and feature that premium smartphone brands such as Apple’s iPhone X carry to unlock their phones with just a mere simple glance thanks to the incorporation of this latest AI technology. It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

73.91%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
