TAG Heuer has launched the Connected Calibre E4, a new Wear OS-based smartwatch. Unfortunately, the company's latest effort is like every Wear OS smartwatch bar the Galaxy Watch4 series. Namely, the Connected Calibre E4 arrives with the Snapdragon Wear 4100+, a platform that remains Qualcomm's most powerful for smartwatches. The Snapdragon Wear 4100+ is two years old this summer, though.
Also, the Connected Calibre E4 ships with Wear OS 2. In fairness to TAG Heuer, Google is still beta testing Wear OS 3, months after Samsung introduced it with One UI Watch. Additionally, TAG Heuer promises that it will upgrade the Connected Calibre E4 to Wear OS 'when the update becomes available'. However, Google has already confirmed that it will not distribute Wear OS to its partners until the second half of 2022.
The Connected Calibre E4 is available in 42 mm and 45 mm sizes, both with AMOLED displays. While both sizes offer identical feature sets, the 45 mm version has a larger battery. Specifically, 42 mm models have a 330 mAh battery, compared to the 430 mAh capacity of their 45 mm siblings. Both sizes should last a day between charges, although TAG Heuer suggests that the 42 mm has superior battery life when exercising.
The Connected Calibre E4 starts at an eye-watering US$1,800 for the 42 mm version and US$2,050 for if you want the larger 45 mm edition. These prices only come with a steel watch body and a rubber strap; TAG Heuer charges US$2,550 for a titanium case, which is only available as a 45 mm watch. TAG Heuer will begin shipping the Connected Calibre E4 next month.
