Nightdive Studios has officially launched System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on PC, but console players will have to wait a little longer. Originally scheduled for simultaneous release on June 26, the remastered classic is now available only on PC, with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch versions delayed until early July.
The delay, announced just days before launch, was attributed to last-minute issues encountered during the certification process on certain platforms. Here’s what the studio said in a statement posted on Bluesky -
"We have encountered issues that have prevented us from launching System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on consoles… on June 26 as originally intended,” Nightdive said in the statement. “We’re currently working to address these issues as quickly as possible… with the console release now targeting the first two weeks of July."
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is ow available on PC
Despite the setback on consoles, the PC and Mac versions are now live on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Humble, as originally announced. Plus, with the ongoing offer, you can get a 10% discount. This marks a major milestone for the project, which was unveiled back in 2019 and recently rebranded for the game's 25th anniversary.
PC players can enjoy the game with high-end enhancements, including 4K visuals, 144fps support, ultra-widescreen compatibility, and full mod integration. Console versions will also support high refresh rates (up to 120fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S), adjustable FOV, and post-processing effects, ensuring a smooth experience once released.
While console users may be disappointed by the delay, Nightdive has reassured fans that the wait won’t be long. The studio is “working quickly” to resolve the remaining issues and says a firm release date for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch will be shared soon.
