Deal | Steam: Turn-based strategy remake with battle mechs cheaper than ever before

FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake is set in the year 2090 on Huffman Island, a disputed crisis zone between the Oceania Cooperative Union and the Unified Continental States. Players take on the role of Royd Clive, who uncovers a larger conspiracy after a failed military mission and the disappearance of his fiancée. The story is told across two campaigns from the perspectives of the O.C.U. and the U.C.S.

In gameplay terms, the title focuses on classic turn-based battles in which so-called Wanzers are deployed – heavy military machines that can be customized extensively. Clever positioning, the right choice of equipment and a smart composition of units determine the outcome of each battle. Pilots and Wanzers can be adjusted between missions, allowing for different builds and tactical play styles. The remake includes multiple difficulty levels, a classic and a modern mode, a freely rotatable camera, a new tactical map and the choice between an orchestrated and the original soundtrack.

In its review, British gaming website Dexerto.com praised FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake above all for its engaging turn-based battles, extensive mech customization and the two campaigns that tell the story from the perspective of both factions. Criticism, on the other hand, focused on the occasionally dated-looking animations and a story that can feel somewhat overly melodramatic at times. In the end, the editorial team awarded it a strong 4 out of 5 points. On Metacritic, the game holds a Metascore of 69 and a User Score of 7.6. The Steam community is slightly more positive: 79% of more than 640 user reviews are favorable.

80% off on Steam for the first time

FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake was developed by Polish studio Forever Entertainment and released in June 2023. The turn-based strategy game normally sells for around $35 on Steam, but with the current 80% discount, the price drops to $6.99 until April 12. According to SteamDB, previous discounts had reached a maximum of 75%, most recently during the Steam Spring Sale. The current deal therefore marks a new all-time low. The title is rated as “Verified” on the Steam Deck (currently available from Amazon for $1.200).
