Royal, the overpowered supervillain of Cityville, usually terrorizes the city with his equally villainous "Super Kingly Weapon." Today, though, he's on an involuntary day off – his weapon is in for repairs. And what does a bored supervillain do? He rambles about his job, his past and the art of being a menace. All you do in this game is click through 205 text boxes. Exactly 205.
Visually, This Game Will End in 205 Clicks is as minimal as it gets. Almost the entire experience is a text box on an orange background, a sprite of our supervillain at its side and a counter showing how many clicks remain. Making choices isn’t part of the deal either – the developers even warn, “Beware: it’s not a game with really meaningful decisions.” Apparently, Royal’s charm, queerness and eccentric streak are enough to keep players engaged, at least for the 30 minutes it takes to finish.
Released on August 5 and developed by insertdisc5, This Game Will End in 205 Clicks has already gathered around 350 reviews, with an impressive 98% of them positive. On SteamDB, the supervillain tale currently tops the "Hot Releases" chart. Since the game is completely free to play, it’s well worth a look. Those who want to support the developers can pick up an artbook on Steam for about $5.
