Hollow Knight is a 2D action-adventure game where players control a small, silent beetle warrior exploring the fallen kingdom of Hallownest. With its blend of exploration, atmosphere and challenge, the indie hit has earned over 350,000 Steam reviews, boasting an impressive 97% positive rating since its release in February 2017. It’s no surprise that the sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is now the second most wishlisted game on Steam.
In Silksong, players step into the role of Hornet, an agile warrior with acrobatic movements, fast attacks and a unique silk-based mechanic. Unlike the original, where souls were used for healing and abilities, Silksong replaces them with silk. The adventure moves from the dark depths of Hallownest to the vibrant kingdom of Pharloom. The sequel introduces a quest system, expanded crafting for tools and traps, intense boss battles and over 150 new enemies.
Release possibly earlier than expected
Announced in February 2019, Silksong was originally set for release in the first half of 2023. However, according to Matthew Griffin, who handles marketing and publishing at Team Cherry, the game turned out to be much larger and more complex than expected, leading to a delay.
Since then, Silksong has remained shrouded in silence, making a 2025 release seem unlikely. Some fans even feared the game might never come out. However, early this year, Team Cherry reassured players that development was still ongoing. On March 18, Silksong was mentioned in an Xbox article listing upcoming titles. Other games in the article, like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Descenders Next, are set for April releases, while FBC: Firebreak is expected in May. Based on this pattern, gaming insider eXtas1s speculates that Hollow Knight: Silksong could arrive in June.
eXtas1s is a highly credible figure in the gaming community, with many of his past leaks proving accurate. Additionally, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier and other sources also believe Silksong will launch in 2025. However, without an official announcement from Team Cherry, this remains speculation. A 2026 release is still a possibility.
