Steam Frame review leaks before embargo, revealing important pricing information

Valve has yet to reveal the price or release date of the Steam Frame, but the company has been preparing for its launch behind the scenes. Previous rumors and leaks also suggested that reviews of the upcoming VR headset were already underway, and it seems that one of them accidentally went live today ahead of the embargo.

A complete Steam Frame review was briefly published on ShortCircuit, the secondary YouTube channel owned by Linus Media Group. The video had a runtime of 17 minutes and 26 seconds and was available for a short period before being taken down. However, it remained online long enough for copies to be made, which are now being shared across social media.

The review gives us our first proper in-depth look at Valve's upcoming headset. It shows what's included in the box, takes a closer look at the controllers, and goes through the first-time setup process. It also covers the display quality, eye tracking, ports, and several other features.

The video also includes a quick fit test and a range test. Interestingly, it confirms that the Steam Frame controllers will ship with batteries. This makes them different from the Valve Index controllers, which feature built-in rechargeable batteries.

While the leaked review does not reveal the price of the Steam Frame itself, it does provide some pricing information. According to the video, the Ergonomics Accessories Kit will cost $60 and will be sold separately.

The kit includes an additional strap for the headset as well as straps for the controllers. At $60, however, the kit does seem a little expensive for what's included, and something closer to $30 would have been more reasonable.

That said, the Steam Frame launch appears closer than ever. Valve recently updated multiple Steam Frame packages in the Steam backend and also released the stable SteamVR 2.17 update. An insider previously suggested that the VR headset could arrive on September 14, so we’ll know soon enough if that was accurate.
