According to Valve, the Steam Deck has been postponed until February 2022. The PC gaming company explained that its upcoming handheld device will be pushed back by two months due to global supply chain problems. The Steam Deck is the company’s ambitious attempt to enter the handheld gaming market. The highly anticipated device was marketed as a powerful and portable gaming PC and features a Switch-like design. Nevertheless, gamers who reserved a Steam Deck will have to wait a little longer.
Valve apologised for missing its initial launch date and claimed that the company worked tirelessly to deal with the supply chain issues. However, Valve’s manufacturing facilities were faced with material shortages and key components were arriving at a slower pace than expected and thus, there were not sufficient Steam Decks produced to meet the deadline.
The gaming company estimates that the Steam Deck will be ready by February 2022 and the device will commence shipping to lucky gamers who were able to make reservations. Valve reassured reservation holders that their position in queue will be maintained but the reservation start dates will be adjusted to accommodate the ongoing logistics challenges.
The Steam Deck is not the only device affected by problems in the supply network as other gaming devices such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have also been hindered due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
