Xiaomi may not have finished rolling out MIUI 12 to all handsets, as the most recent update for the Redmi 7 has shown, but the company has moved onto pastures new. Apparently, Xiaomi will showcase MIUI 12.5 with the Mi 11 series next week, but stable builds may not arrive for a few months.
According to a report posted on Xiaomiui Turkey, it could take until the end of February 2021 for MIUI 12.5 to reach stable status. That rough date is the earliest by when Xiaomi will begin distributing MIUI 12.5 too, so its release could run into March 2021.
The report adds that Xiaomi has stopped developing Closed Beta builds of MIUI 12.5, and will not issue a China Closed Beta builds until the beginning of January. After that, Xiaomi must distribute MIUI 12.5 on its China Weekly Beta branch, before pushing the OS update to its China Stable channel. Global Stable builds will follow China Stable ones, so MIUI 12.5 still has plenty of milestones to reach before it replaces MIUI 12.
It is unclear how many devices will receive MIUI 12.5 too. MIUI 13 should be arriving next year too, so MIUI 12.5 may have a short lifespan.
