Sony may soon announce a new version of its PlayStation 5 console a.k.a PS5, and this variant is reported to have a smaller storage capacity than the current version on store shelves.
Sony is known to announce new versions of its consoles during the course of their lifecycle. Currently, it sells the PS5 in a slimmer form factor than the console originally launched back in 2020. However, the upcoming version, which has the model number “CFI-2100” and is referred to as “Chassis E”, is reported to be no different in terms of design from the current PS5 Slim (CFI-2000).
According to Dealabs, the CFI-2100 version might have minor internal changes due to optimized production, but the biggest change is that the digital edition will come with less storage out of the box. Instead of 1TB of storage, it will have 825GB of storage. However, the disc version will retain the 1TB storage capacity.
It is also noteworthy that the reduced storage capacity has only been spotted on the European version of the console, and there's no info yet on the models for other regions. In addition, this new PS5 Digital Edition will ship in a redesigned box that clearly states that it has 825GB of storage.
Despite having smaller storage, the new PS5 Slim Digital Edition will be priced at €499.99, the same price as the 1TB edition (curr. available on Amazon.de for €439). It is reported to be released on September 13, which is less than two weeks away. So if you have been postponing buying the PS5 Digital Edition, now is a good time to grab the 1TB version before it goes out of stock.
