Sony unveils coloured side plates for the PS5; new DualSense colourways also announced
Sony will soon let players perk up their PS5 consoles (the lucky few who managed to get one) with a dash of new colours. It has officially unveiled new swappable side plates for the console in a variety of colours, including Midnight Black and Cosmic Red, which will be available for purchase in select regions in January 2022. Consumers in the US, UK, France, and Germany will be able to order the cover plates via PlayStation Direct on January 21. The Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple models are expected to follow suit shortly after. Refer to Sony's official blog post for more information about the availability.
Sony has also revealed three new DualSense colour variants to complement the PS5 side plates. Previously, Sony launched a Midnight Black and Cosmic Red variant of the controller. They are now joined by Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple colourways. We can expect them to hit shelves alongside the new cover plates. Those looking to get their hands on the Galactic Purple controller can try their luck on January 14 on PlayStation Direct in the aforementioned regions.
The announcement was inevitable, given Sony's recent tiff with case maker Dbrand and the subsequent filing at the USPTO office. Unfortunately, Sony hasn't told us how much the new cover plates/DualSense controllers would cost, and we should know more about it closer to its launch date.
