IFA 2013 | Sony shows off the new VAIO Fit multi-flip PC

Teaser
The new line of convertibles offer an innovative design unlike anything we've seen before

Sony has shown off an incredible line up of new devices at its press conference in Berlin. One of the more interesting devices was hinted at in an origami teaser last week - the VAIO Fit multi-flip convertible.

Despite excellent specs, Sony's VAIO Duo line hasn't hasn't been as well received as the Japanese company might have hoped. The problem with the Duo line, as with nearly all convertibles, is the need to make compromises in order to offer both a tablet and an ultrabook experience in the same device. Manufacturers have tried different design approches from the Lenovo Yoga that left the keyboard exposed in tablet mode, to the Asus Taichi with its dual screens, and Sony's Duo with its fixed angle screen. None of them seem to have hit the mark yet, but the multi-flip certainly seems to have a chance.

The new line will include three different models the Fit 13A, the Fit 14A, and the Fit 15A. All three use the same mechanism to switch the device between a standard (adjustable angle) notebook mode, a tablet mode, and a display mode (with the screen facing away from the keyboard). Backlit keyboards, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 ports, HDMI ports, and SD card slots are also standard.

The Fit 13A features a 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Triluminos display, up to an Intel Core i7 4500U processor, Intel 4400 graphics, up to 8 GB RAM, an active digitizer stylus, up to a 512 GB SSD, and weighs just 1.2 kg (2.65 pounds).

The Fit 14A features a 14-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Triluminos display, up to an Intel Core i7 4500U processor, Intel 4400 graphics, up to 8 GB RAM, an optional active digitizer stylus, up to a 1 TB hybrid drive or up to a 512 GB SSD, and weighs 1.8 kg (3.97 pounds).

The Fit 15A features a 15.5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD or 2880 x 1620 over Full HD Triluminos display, up to an Intel Core i7 4500U processor, Intel 4400 graphics or an NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M GPU, up to 16 GB RAM, an optional active digitizer stylus, up to a 1 TB hybrid drive or up to a 512 GB SSD, and weighs 2 kg (4.4 pounds).

The VAIO Fit multi-flip line will be available in Europe this fall. Prices and availability in other regions have not yet been announced.
