Sony showcases Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 with massive graphics downgrades from the PS5 version

Horizon Forbidden West is less than a week away; Sony will release the Horizon Zero Dawn successor on February 18 across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. While Guerrilla Games has already showcased the game's graphical capabilities on PlayStation 5, the company has only recently shared PlayStation 4 gameplay footage. As the videos below highlight, the PlayStation 4 handles Horizon Forbidden West smoothly with a stable 30 FPS frame rate. However, the game utilises a dynamic resolution to hit its 30 FPS target. Understandably, details and visibility are way down on what the PS4 manages.

The situation looks better for PlayStation 4 Pro owners, though. As expected, the more powerful console delivers sharper textures than the base PlayStation 4 console. In saying that, the PlayStation 4 Pro cannot produce as complex lighting as the PlayStation 5. Similarly, the PlayStation 5 also has the edge in shadow resolution, frame rate stability and particle effect quality.
