Snap Inc has officially launched its new Spectacles 3. The Spectacles 3 feature dual built-in cameras that can shoot photos and video in 3D at up to 60fps with the ability to overlay 3D AR-style effects.

Snap Inc, the maker of the popular Snapchat app has launched the Spectacles 3, the latest hardware tie-in to come from the social media company. The Spectacles 3 feature dual HD cameras capable of shooting 3D still images and 3D video at up to 60 fps. As you would expect from Snap, the Spectacles also feature a wide range of 3D AR-style filters and overlays to add fun and color to the experience.

As you would expect, the integration with the Snapchat app is tight with the Spectacles 3 able to seamlessly transfer images and video into the Snapchat app to add additional effects including lighting, landscapes and other effects to transform a scene. These can then be exported to the camera roll in circular, horizontal, square and VR formats for sharing.

The Spectacles 3 come in Carbon or Mineral colors and are up for pre-order for US$380. They will ship in three to four weeks and will come with a charging case good for four full charges (50 percent quick charge in 15 minutes), a cleaning cloth and Google Cardboard-like 3D viewer. On board storage is capped at 4 GB which is good for 100 3D videos or 1,200 3D photos.

I have been tech-obsessed from the time my father introduced me to my first computer, an Apple ][. Since then, I have grown to enjoy exploring and experimenting with any computing platform that I can get my hands on – I am the definitive early adopter! I have always been interested in how we can use technology to shape and improve our lives, most recently using it to record, mix and master my debut record, Acuity – Nature | Nurture out now on Spotify.
