After five years in development, Skyforge entered the open beta stage in early 2015. This free-to-play MMORPG was released for PlayStation 4 in April, and now the time has finally arrived for the Xbox One console to get it as well.

Skyforge is an action MMORPG developed by the Allods Team in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment and published by My.com. This publisher is well known for Armored Warfare, a game that started well and had the potential of becoming an excellent alternative to World of Tanks but lost most of its players in the meantime due to a few (very) wrong development decisions. For now, Skyforge seems to be doing all right, since it has just been released for the Xbox One console and there will be a lot of new players eager to give it a try in the coming weeks.

The game's action takes place in the fictional world of Aelion, a planet constantly under the threat of invasion by its neighbors. The official story says that "These otherworldly conquerors have attempted to seize and enslave Aelion’s population, and eons of failed invasion attempts have left traces of strange alien technology and magic, transforming Aelion forever. Led by their great guardian god Aeli, the citizens have learned to use these technologies and magic against their invaders."

Before disappearing into the unknown, the great god shared a part of his life essence to be passed on to Aelion's champions so they have what it takes to protect the planet. Obviously, you are one of the chosen few.

When playing Skyforge, you can choose one of the 15 classes available, including Witch, Cryomancer, Knight, Monk, Outlaw, Alchemist, Gunner, Kinetic, Revenant, and so on. The game comes with a Campaign mode that contains "dozens of hours of entertainment" and various PVE and PVP game modes that can be enjoyed 24/7. Skyforge has over 100 locations waiting to be discovered right now, with more to be added in future updates.

Downloading and playing Skyforge is free, but those who want to advance faster or to own an exclusive mount can grab one of the Launch Packs currently available. PlayStation 4 users have been able to enjoy the game since April, but the Windows version is apparently stuck in the beta stage for the time being.
