A small number of different Reddit posts describe the same new issue with the Pixel 4 XL smartphone. They all assert that the glass panel that covers the back of this phone has started to dissociate from the rest of the units in question. One or two of these users has also brought this to the attention of Google Support.
This apparent failure of the rear panel glue may not look severe in the images that depict the issue. However, it may pose more of a threat in the presence of water or other potential hazards to a smartphone's wellbeing. In addition, it casts yet more of a pall on Google's reputation as a hardware manufacturer.
However, the potentially worrying aspect of this emerging flaw in the 4 XL's integrity is that a Reddit contributor who claims to work in device repair asserts that the problem is related to a fault in a battery connector; therefore, the rear panels may be coming off thanks to pressure from a swelling power-pack underneath it.
The 4 XL is now only about 9 months old; therefore, it would be reasonable to speculate that owners affected by this issue would secure a repair or replacement under their warranty. However, at least one of the Reddit posts contain references to unexpected difficulty in getting the Mountain View company to offer this kind of support. In addition, it has yet to respond to requests for a comment on this situation.
