There's no shortage of decent, budget-friendly soundbars on the market that can elevate your TV viewing experience. But if you really want that premium, cinema-like surround sound complete with Dolby Atmos height effects, Samsung's flagship HW-Q990F and Q990D soundbars are hard to beat. While these highly rated soundbars cost a pretty penny, usually fetching upwards of $1,500, you can grab them for half the price right now.
The Samsung HW-Q990F launched in April at a hefty $1,999 price tag, but for a limited time, you can bring it home for just $998 at Woot. That’s the lowest price we’ve seen for Samsung’s latest flagship model and even undercuts the $1,600 deal Samsung itself is offering. Usually, a Woot deal as good as this often compromises on the official warranty, with users having to settle for Woot’s limited 90-day coverage. Thankfully, that’s not the case with the HW-Q990F; it comes with Samsung’s 1-year domestic warranty.
You can save even more by picking up the last-gen HW-Q990D, which is also on sale at Woot for just $899, down from $1,999. That’s 55% off and matches the lowest price we’ve ever tracked for the 2023 model. The catch? It lacks Samsung’s official coverage, with Woot instead offering an equivalent 1-year vendor-backed warranty. Amazon also has this model on sale, but you'll have to shell out $97 more.
Both soundbars are pretty much identical, except for the subwoofer.
The biggest change with the 2025 HW-Q990F is the redesigned subwoofer, which is roughly half the size of the Q990D’s sub. It packs dual 8-inch drivers arranged in opposite directions. Samsung claims this new design offers cleaner, more precise bass with fewer vibrations. Otherwise, there’s hardly any difference between these two models. Both are 11.1.4-channel systems and come with a soundbar, subwoofer, and rear speakers. There’s support for Dolby Atmos (including Dolby Atmos wireless), DTS:X, DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD formats—the HW-Q990F even supports Eclipsa Audio, the open-source 3D audio format Samsung co-developed with Google. Connectivity is just as future-proof, too, with dual HDMI 2.1 ports offering 4K HDR passthrough at 120Hz, eARC, optical audio input, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, Spotify Connect, Chromecast, AirPlay, Alexa, and Google Home support. Both systems also support Samsung Q-Symphony, a feature that lets you use your Samsung TV’s built-in speakers in concert with the soundbar, and audio enhancements like SpaceFit Sound Pro and Voice Amplifier Pro.
Which one should you buy?
Samsung’s flagship soundbar hasn’t changed much over the past few generations. Barring the small cosmetic changes and a more refined subwoofer, the HW-Q990F is identical to the HW-Q990D, which in turn was quite similar to the Q990C. But considering there’s only $100 difference between the 2025 and 2023 models, we think going with the latest Q990F soundbar would be a good idea. Its compact sub will more easily blend in with your furniture and should provide tighter, more controlled bass. Not to mention, you’ll also get Samsung’s official warranty coverage.
