Business people eh? Ruthless, bloodthirsty? Maybe in the 80s. The modern businessman of today is a trendy fellow, teleconferencing his power brunch over a goatee and a grande macchiato. We weren't expecting much from the Samsung P580, but this is a highly usable laptop that offers surprising punch when it comes to performance. The anti-glare screen won't please everybody, however.

Samsung's P580 offers a lot for its price, but it's not necessarily what business users will want. However, if you fancy some 3D gaming or frequently use graphics-accelerated applications, and can live with its short battery life, this versatile and durable laptop is a good candidate.

The Samsung P580 is an old-fashioned laptop hiding an old-school legacy port, sporting the latest Intel and nVidia silicon inside. Unfortunately mobile workers may also balk at the old-time runtime of little over three hours too. It's a chunky heavyweight that lacks the build integrity and finesse of HP or even Dell, but that sub-£750 price may win over a business accounts department.

It can't match the business heavyweights, but has a dash of style and a lower price to compensate.

Designed with an eye on practicality and with style often factoring low in the equation, corporate laptops are rarely things of beauty. Samsung's new business-oriented P580 doesn't do anything to alter this image. The P580 is a well-made, portable business laptop that is reasonably priced. The wow factor has to be its graphics handling and HDMI out, but it is not going to win awards for looks.

The Samsung P580 is a decent notebook, with a robust design and good keyboard. The battery life probably isn't good enough for the frequent traveller, but if your notebook resides mainly on your desk it should be OK.

The Samsung P580 has a fair amount to offer professional users, with a worthy specification and solid range of features. The TFT display is perfect for working on the move, and the strong overall build quality is only let down by the dodgy spacebar.

With a great screen, keyboard and touchpad, plus the excellent build quality, the Samsung P580 has plenty going for it. Its fast 3D performance is notable, too, but unless this is a priority, it's hard to justify the high cost compared to similar but cheaper models that are quicker in Windows and have longer-lasting batteries. If you can find it cheaper, though, it's a good buy.

Silent office. This 15.6-inch notebook from Samsung sets out to be the perfect office companion, and one that you can count on. There is no energy-guzzling graphics card, and its tried and tested 'silent mode' makes typing quiet as a whisper. But is it equally impressive in its workmanship and portability?

Samsung Business Notebook P580
Source: Gadgetspeak English Archive.org version
Cosmetically I loved this unit, the screen was far less reflective than ‘cheaper’ notebooks and I have already mentioned no fingerprints, the Intel Core i3 processor worked well and the 3GB of Ram proved perfectly adequate. Doing my Internet searches found the Samsung P580 Business Notebook at £723 from the link below.

Samsung: Samsung Group is the largest South Korean conglomerate and was founded in 1938. Samsung Group employed 489,000 people in 2014 and is one of the world's largest companies in terms of revenue and market strength. The name Samsung means "Three Stars" in Korean and represents the three sons of the company's founder. The company was founded in 1938 as a grocery store. With its subsidiary Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, Samsung took up the production of electrotechnical items, focusing on consumer electronics and household appliances at an early stage. Other branches in which the large corporation is active include mechanical engineering, automobiles (Hyundai), insurance, wholesale, real estate and leisure. Samsung manufactures a wide range of electronic products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances and semiconductors. The company's Galaxy line of smartphones is one of the most popular in the world. Samsung is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, making memory chips and processors for many other electronics manufacturers.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: The Nvidia GeForce GT 330M is the successor of the GT 230M and technically just a slightly higher clocked GT 240M (but it should still maintain the power envelope of the GT 230M as the naming suggests).

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core i5:

430M:

The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

Intel Core i3:

330M:

The Core i3-330M is a slower clocked 350M and therefore also lacks the Turbo Boost feature and clocks with max. 2.13 GHz. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2.5 kg:

2.514 kg:

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

78.07%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
