Samsung India has been releasing Galaxy On handsets locally for a few years already, and recently a naming pattern can be easily noticed. Not long after launching a Samsung Galaxy Jx in the country, Samsung India comes up with a Flipkart-exclusive Galaxy Onx. The last time I recall this happening was less than a month ago — when the Galaxy J6 was re-launched as the Galaxy On6. Now, the time has come for the slightly more powerful — and expensive — Galaxy J8 to receive the same treatment.
If you missed the launch of the Galaxy J8 (2018), it's enough to say that there is nothing spectacular about it. This 6-inch phablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor inside, next to 4 GB of memory and 64 GB internal storage, a 16 MP selfie shooter, a 16 MP + 5 MP dual camera setup on the back, all driven by a 3,500 mAh battery and Android Oreo.
Although they have not been on the market for a long time, the latest Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 managed to sell over two million units combined in India so far. Since the online-exclusive On6 and On8 also come for a slightly lower price tag, their future seems bright as well. Today's main topic, for example, can be acquired for a price of around INR₹18,000 (~US$262), which is about INR₹1,000 (US$15) less than the Galaxy J8 (2018). This price alone shows why Xiaomi is so successful in India.
