Apple has just acknowledged that iPhone 14 Plus handsets that were manufactured last year between April 10 and April 28 have a rear camera issue that prevents the device from showing image previews. Thankfully, the problem will be fixed for free regardless of the warranty status of the affected phone.

Introduced alongside the vanilla version on September 7, 2022, the Apple iPhone 14 Plus became available for purchase one month later, carrying a price tag of $899. Sporting a 6.7-inch display, the iPhone 14 Plus sports the same camera system as its sibling. This system brings together a 12 MP selfie shooter and a dual camera setup, which consists of 12 MP wide and ultra-wide sensors. Sadly, some units are suffering from a problem, and Apple is recalling them for repair.

"Apple has determined that the rear camera on a very small percentage of iPhone 14 Plus devices may exhibit no preview. Affected devices were manufactured between April 10, 2023 to April 28, 2024."

This statement has been published by Apple Canada on the support webpage labeled "iPhone 14 Plus Service Program for Rear Camera Issue," which allows anyone to check if a certain device is affected by not with the help of its serial number.

After confirming that a certain device is eligible, its owner has three choices for getting it fixed. If they cannot go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, they can also get in touch with Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.

A note on the aforementioned webpage also states that units with "any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked back glass," need to have that issue ironed out first. However, fixing such issues will not be free.

Those who are looking for a case can currently take advantage of the 14% discount available for the OtterBox iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 14 Plus Commuter Series Case, which is now available starting at $34.32 (the price depends on the color chosen).
