Deal | ROG Strix Scar 17 with RTX 4080 Laptop GPU and Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU drops to lowest price ever on Amazon
The ROG Strix Scar 17 is a high-end laptop by ASUS that boasts powerful internals allowing for impressively fast performance, along with a daunting price tag. However, thanks to a recent $400 discount by Amazon, this gaming monstrosity can now be purchased for 'just' $2,599.
A few checks on price tracking websites such as Camelcamelcamel reveal that the ROG Strix Scar 17's current price is indeed its lowest ever on Amazon, making the deal even sweeter. Coupled with Amazon's free delivery along with a 30-day return policy, the purchasing process becomes all the more convenient.
In terms of performance, the ROG Strix Scar 17 is quite the beast. Although over a year old, the laptop's 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU and RTX 4080 Laptop GPU pack enough grunt for almost anything thrown its way. Although the Ryzen 9 falls slightly short of Intel's i9-14900HX in single-core tests, it makes up for it thanks to its healthy lead in multi-core tests over the i9.
In our review of the RTX 4090-equipped ROG Strix Scar 17, the system performed admirably in every test, leaving us with little room for complaint. However, we found the fan noise and temperatures a bit on the higher side, although the keyboard and trackpad areas were never uncomfortably hot to the touch.
The laptop's 17.3-inch 240 Hz QHD display is yet another strong performer. With an excellent 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and acceptable contrast levels, the Scar 17's display is hard to fault whether it be gaming or content creation. The port selection is decent, but the lack of USB4 ports is disappointing. Both the 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and 2 TB SSD are user-upgradeable, so no complaints in that regard.
All in all, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is a commendable gaming and creation machine with impressive performance and a color-accurate, 240 Hz, 1440p IPS display. Amazon's ongoing offer drops its price down to the lowest ever on the platform, making it even easier to recommend.
