According to DigiTimes, Taiwanese notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer Inc. has reportedly shipped 3.8 million units for the month of March to represent a 65 percent increase over February. Quanta Computer is one of the largest manufacturers of notebooks in the world with well-known clients including Apple, HP, and Dell. Other smaller ODMs like Compal Electronics, Inventec, and Wistron have also recorded an increase in notebook shipments by about 30 percent during the same period. Nonetheless, shipments for the month of March are down 6.08 percent year-over-year.
Leading analysts are predicting another flat year for notebooks due to a variety of factors including fluctuating currency values, stagnant demand, and the fact that most existing Windows notebooks are eligible for free upgrades to Windows 10. Nonetheless, market observers are expecting increase revenues for Quanta Computer as Apple readies its lineup of 13-inch and 15-inch MacBooks for the end of the year.
PC shipments are expected to shrink while the niche PC gaming market may be resisting the general trend for the next few years due to the availability of VR headsets and other high-end peripherals. Such demanding devices are very taxing on the hardware and are predicted to boost sales of Nvidia and enthusiast computer components.
