Deal | Poker against dragons: Fantasy roguelike drops below $1.50 on Steam for the first time

In Poker Quest: Swords and Spades, players fight their way through a fantasy world full of monsters, castles, knights, wizards and dragons. Their most important tool is a standard 52-card poker deck. Drawn cards are used to activate weapons, armor and abilities in order to defeat enemies, collect equipment and progress as far as possible along randomly generated paths.

Before each run, players choose one of more than 20 heroes, each with their own equipment, abilities and playstyle, including fantasy archetypes such as knights, rogues and mages. The game also features thousands of items, hundreds of monsters, boss fights, shops, mini-games, daily runs and challenge runs. The real appeal, however, lies in managing probabilities: players have to judge which cards are still in the deck, which combinations remain possible and when it makes more sense to attack, defend or conserve resources.

On Steam, Poker Quest: Swords and Spades has more than 700 user reviews, 87% of which are positive. Players particularly praise its high replay value, creative combat system and tactical depth. However, the roguelike is not without criticism: negative reviews mainly mention the high degree of randomness, balancing issues and a grind that can feel tedious at times. On the Steam Deck, the title is classified as “Playable.”

90% discount on Steam for the first time

Poker Quest: Swords and Spades comes from Californian indie studio Playsaurus and was released in November 2022. The roguelike normally costs $14.99 on Steam, but a 90% discount reduces the price to $1.49 until May 11. According to SteamDB, the title had previously been discounted by a maximum of 80%, most recently during the Summer Sale 2025. The current deal therefore marks a new all-time low.
