Despite Google's Pixel launch event being less than two weeks away, the leaks aren't stopping. The latest reveals the key specs of the Pixel Buds 2a, and it not only shows how the new pair of earbuds differ from the Pixel Buds A-Series but also how they are different from the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
The new leak reveals the Pixel Buds 2a will be available in two colors at launch, and according to an earlier report, one of them is called Iris. That older leak also said there will be two other colors called Strawberry and Fog Light, but this official-looking spec sheet posted by Evan Blass on X shows there are only two colors, and the other looks more like Obsidian. Nevertheless, both colors match two of the colors of the Pixel 9a (curr. available on Amazon for $399).
The Pixel Buds 2a, unlike the Pixel Buds A-series, will have active noise cancellation (ANC). However, it won't be at the same level as that of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 which are ANC with Silent Seal 2.0 and can “adapt to the your environment up to 3 million times per second and cancels up to twice as much noise”.
The leaked spec sheet also reveals that the Pixel Buds 2a will have a battery life of 7 hours on a single charge, an upgrade from the 5 hours of the Pixel Buds A-series. Unfortunately, the total battery life with the charging case has been reduced to 20 hours, whereas the Pixel Buds A-Series have a battery life of 24 hours with the charging case.
Another feature that has been added to the Pixel Buds 2a is support for Spatial Audio, albeit without head tracking which is exclusive to the Pixel Buds Pro 2. The Pixel Buds 2a will also be missing support for wireless charging like its predecessor and will also not have support for conversation detection.
In summary, the Pixel Buds 2a will arrive with key upgrades over the Pixel Buds A-Series but will miss out on some features to distinguish them from the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
