The PiTalk is a suite of three add-ons for all Raspberry Pi units, with developer Ravinder ensuring compatibility for the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s Model Zero through Model B ranges. For reference, the PiTalk is available as a 2G HAT, a 4G HAT, and a 4G USB dongle, as the image above highlights. Theoretically, the PiTalk would be compatible with other single-board computers (SBCs), too.
According to the manufacturer, both 4G models master LTE Cat 4 for up to 150 Mbit/s download speeds and 50 MBit/s upload speeds, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The PiTalk 4G HAT has an integrated GNSS module too for connecting to Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS and QSZZ location services. By contrast, the 2G HAT peaks at 85 KBit/s download and upload speeds.
At the time of writing, the PiTalk starts at roughly US$25 as a 2G HAT. Alternatively, Ravinder has priced the PiTalk 4G Dongle at US$79 and has settled on US$85 for the PiTalk 4G HAT. With the crowdfunding campaign having already reached its modest funding goal, Ravinder expects to being shipping PiTalk units sometime in February 2023. Please note that there are often delays with crowdfunded products reaching backers, as Kickstarter stresses on every campaign page.
