Peak Design Micro Clutch hand strap for compact mirrorless cameras solves ergonomics problems for US$50
Peak Design's eleventh Kickstarter campaign is the Micro Clutch hand strap that the accessory maker touts will give you better grip over on your mirrorless camera. The hand strap goes over the right hand side of the camera and is designed for the compact form factors of mirrorless cameras. The minimalist hand strap is meant to serve as a low-profile alternative to bulky camera grips that doesn't get in the way of other camera accessories.
The Micro Clutch's clever aluminium baseplate conveniently hides an installation tool for easy access to the battery, and the plate attaches to the camera via the standard 1/4" threaded mount found on the bottom of most camera bodies. Peak Design claims the Micro Clutch will fit most mirrorless camera bodies, and has two variations of the base plate to maximise compatibility — a straight "I" plate for camera bodies without a grip, and an "L" plate for camera bodies with a pronounced grip.
The Micro Clutch Kickstarter has already surpassed its US$50,000 goal, with over 3,000 backers pledging over US$310,000 to the project, despite only going live on the day of writing. Normally, Kickstarters inspire a bit of mistrust, but Peak Design has been at product development for a long time, and the company has built up a strong reputation with its users.
Backing the campaign on Kickstarter costs US$50 for the Micro Clutch as a reward, while coughing up US$135 or more gets you access to all manner of bundles, with the Kickstarter options topping out at US$575, which nets you a Peak Design Micro Clutch, Capture Camera Clip, Leash Camera Strap, and Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod. If you're hesitant of crowdfunding projects, the Micro Clutch will be available at an MSRP of US$65 after the Kickstarter runs its course and the project enters production.
