PUBG Mobile to be relaunched in India as Battlegrounds Mobile India
Fans have been clamouring for PUBG Mobile to return to India since the Indian Government banned it over a year ago. Krafton Inc had left no stone unturned to bring back the massively popular battle royale title in the country, even going as far as cutting all ties with PUBG Mobile's publisher Tencent. The game is all set to re-enter the Indian market but under the Battlegrounds Mobile India moniker.
The announcement comes from the official Battlegrounds Mobile website, which explicitly states that the game will remain exclusive to India. It makes sense, considering that its sole purpose is to replace PUBG Mobile, which is still playable in other regions. Unfortunately, there is no release date mentioned anywhere. There isn't even a Google Play Store/App Store listing yet. Krafton says that the Battlegrounds Mobile India will be available for pre-order in India sometime in the coming weeks.
Krafton has also stated that Battlegrounds Mobile India will have its India-centric in-game events and e-sports ecosystem. The game will continue with its free-to-play model but likely offer cosmetic in-app purchases, a seasonal Battle Pass, and more. It would be ideal if Krafton lets existing PUBG Mobile users migrate their profiles to Battlegrounds Mobile India. Many players have invested significant time and resources on the original game; it would be rather cumbersome to start over.
In all likelihood, Battlegrounds Mobile India will be reuse most existing PUBG Mobile assets and call it a day. There is no reason for Krafton to redesign it from the ground up. At best, we could see a few new mechanics here and there. Furthermore, Krafton probably has its hands full developing PUBG: New State.
