PS5 exclusive game now available for free

A new PS5-exclusive game is now available at no cost, giving PlayStation owners another free title to add to their libraries. The Light in the Darkness: Director’s Cut launched this week exclusively on PS5 and is available via the PlayStation Store without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription. It also contains no microtransactions. The game is scheduled to arrive on Steam in October, making the current PS5 release the only version available on consoles.

Developed by Luc Bernard and Arcade Distillery, The Light in the Darkness: Director’s Cut expands on the original PS4 game from 2023. Bernard describes the new edition as his original vision, adding full voice acting, an extended narrative and new animation. Thematically, the game centers on a Jewish family surviving Nazi-occupied France, placing players in the role of civilians rather than combatants.

The game is primarily a narrative, role-playing game rather than a gameplay-heavy adventure. The emotionally-laden storyline has received positive comments, while others have criticised the clunky controls. The original version reportedly only lasts around one to two hours, while the expanded Director’s Cut is longer. At the time of writing, the PS5 release had a 3.46/5 user rating from more than 4,300 reviews.
