Over 20,000 new fast-charging points: Volvo rolls out massive charging update for its EV fleet

Starting in the fourth quarter of 2026, Volvo drivers can completely do away with the detour via third-party apps: more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers will then be easily accessed, activated, and billed directly through the company’s own smartphone application.
Via the so-called Volvo Public Charging Service within the app, owners of a fully electric model will gain direct access to the charging stations of the US pioneer. The rollout applies to a total of 29 European countries, including major core markets such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Norway. For long-distance drivers, official access to the reliable Supercharger network provides a real benefit for quick recharges on the road.
Even today, customers have access to around 1.2 million charging points in Europe and a total of three million charging options worldwide via the app. Volvo is not excluding anyone from this new charging convenience and explicitly names the EX30, EX30 Cross Country, EX40, EC40, and EX60, as well as the large flagship EX90 and the ES90 electric sedan. The Swedish brand is thus covering its entire portfolio, from the small city car to the large long-distance luxury vehicle.
However, the developers' focus extends well beyond the borders of Europe. In key Asia-Pacific markets such as Japan and South Korea, the manufacturer plans to transition selected model lines to the North American Charging System (NACS, SAE J3400 standard) by 2029.
This will give Volvo drivers in Asia direct and seamless access to the local Tesla Supercharger network, eliminating the need for bulky adapters. Charging at the US company’s stations has already been standard practice for Volvo customers in North America for some time.
Through this strategic partnership, the Swedish premium brand is aiming to make daily life with a battery electric vehicle (BEV) as straightforward as possible. After all, the ongoing chaos surrounding standardisation and public charging is a major annoyance in the industry and is widely considered to be the biggest hurdle to mass market adoption. By integrating one of the most well-known and reliable fast-charging networks directly, Volvo is alleviating a significant amount of traditional range and charging anxiety for its customers.
